Daily hair loss is a natural phenomenon. Expect to lose hair from the 10% which is in a resting phase. When the loss reaches beyond normal limits, people tend to notice the hair fall. These include: It affects men and women and the hair loss is very rapid. This is usually caused by an immunity disorder when the intrinsic white cells attack the hair follicles. Alopecia Totalis is another condition where there is total loss of hair on the scalp. This is an uncommon condition.

It is called male pattern baldness. Though essentially genetic, the reason could also be attributed to testosterone the male hormone. Testosterone converts to Dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which retards or stops hair growth and causes the emergence of weak or shorter hair. Men without testosterone would never have male pattern baldness.
Skin diseases: this can affect the scalp and be the reason for hair loss. Dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, scalp fungus such as ringworm and tinea captis are some of the ailments caused by skin diseases.
Sudden illness or fever - Sometimes after an illness or fever, large clumps of hair can come out. This is a temporary event though and soon passes off.
Other causes of hair loss include: Childbirth, The Menopause, Chemotherapy, Radiation Therapy and Age. There are several other reasons for hair loss other than these main ones.
Treating hair loss can be done successfully by which you not only stop hair fall but help in re-growth too. Some natural hair loss treatments are:
1. Vitamins A, B, C and E are hair promoters. Include them in the diet. These vitamins help to provide sebum, good blood circulation to the scalp by increasing oxygen absorption and collagen.
2. Importance of scalp care: Remember to massage your scalp regularly with herbal oils like olive oil, jojoba oil, amla oil. Some natural therapy like essential oils of thyme, rosemary, lavender and cedar wood, are known for their efficacy in the treatment of alopecia areata.
3. Concern for scalp abuse: Blow drying and using chemical shampoos daily are to be avoided. Hair and scalp get damaged by chemical treatments such as coloring and straightening. Your hair and scalp can get damaged as hair turns brittle and dry when you wash it with hot water daily.
4. Using herbal care: Using powders of amla, shikakai, henna and ritha as shampoo and conditioner can be an effective treatment. Prevention of graying and hair loss could be achieved if you use amla powder, an effective anti-oxidant and one of the richest sources of natural vitamin C. Also known as the Fruit for hair, shikakai is known for its low pH and can make a great shampoo which cleanses hair without removing any natural oil. Use henna then which plays its role as a natural conditioner.
5. Bring lifestyle changes: Reduce stress, an important factor in hair loss. Do this by doing exercises and meditation. Forego Smoking: Because the nicotine from the cigarettes blocks the pathway which supplies blood to the scalp and results in reduced supply of blood. To avoid damage to the scalp avoid UV rays from sun exposure.
